Halloween, Japanese Style

Here are some pictures of Tommy's Halloween party. Mio and a mom who just returned from 2 years in New York planned the party. All of the kids got to make costumes, listen to spooky music, eat spooky candy from the USA, and have fun. It was the first Halloween party for most of Tommy's class. You can see Michael and Tommy both in the upper picture. It may be tough to recognize Michael, but he's the big kid compared to the rest, who are kindergartners.

I have been meaning to find out your perspective on the meat issue especially the current ban or restriction on the import of US beef, don't know for sure which is in effect at the present time. What I read in our press is that the US beef is readily accepted by the Japanese consumers and is usually quickly sold out, but some branch of the government is saying that they aren't sure the consumers want US beef. Do you see any Australian beef? I know the Aussies have been the supplier since Dec 2003, but the Aussie beef is mostly grass fattened which will be quite lean and the exports to Japan usually require the very fattest of beef, generally stuff that would be severly discounted in the US because it would be too wasteful because it would have to be trimmed and the loss of saleable product would be very expensive. In addition ading excess fat to a beef animal is very ineffieient and ads considerably to the costs. The Japanese have even developed a breed of cattle that produces much more fat than even the most fat of the breeds used in the US. The Japanese breed and our Limouisin would be on complete opposites on the spectrum of body composition. Limousin is very heavy muscled and generally lean and generally does not have sufficient marbeling to grade choice in the US market, but is highly sought after in the US lean beef market. Will watch for a response. Hope I am not abusing space in the comment section
